Dr. Greg Discusses New Epileptic Seizure Study At UK

esett.net

This week Dr. Greg talks with Dr. Roger Humphries, chair of the department of emergency medicine at UK Healthcare, and a lead investigator at UK of a study involving treatment of epileptic seizures in an emergency room setting.

Since seizure patients cannot give consent to be in a research study while they are seizing, we are asking community members to think about this research and let us know your thoughts in our Established Status Epilepticus Treatment Trial (ESETT) survey.

There are no known risks involved in participating in this survey and your participation is completely voluntary. You may leave questions unanswered, if you feel uncomfortable answering any of the questions.

For more information or to opt out of the study, contact Theresa Mims at  Theresa.Mims@uky.edu or 859-218-5540.

The study involves the use of one of three drugs and includes a lack of consent on the part of the patient.  Additional info is available here.

Dr. Greg Davis is a forensic pathologist with UK HealthCare. Every week, Davis speaks with local health providers, professionals, and researchers on Dr. Greg Davis on Medicine.
