Public Art Workshop

Public Art Workshop

Lexington’s Public Art Commission is hosting a Public Art Workshop for artists and organizations interested in learning more about the city’s public art programs.

The workshop will take place 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, at the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center, 141 E. Main Street.   The event is free and open to the public.

The workshop will include presentations on Lexington’s Percent for Art Program and application procedures for the Public Art Commission’s Collaborative Art program. Local artists who create public art will share information about how they seek out public art commissions, as well as tips for responding to Call to Artists and other information to assist artists in enhancing their practice into public art.

Guest panelists include artists Amanda Matthews and Brad Connell, owners of Prometheus Art, a Lexington based design/build firm, Louisville artist, Dave Caudill who was recently selected to create a public artwork at the Lexington Detention Center, Derek King, an emerging public and visual artist based in Lexington, and Michelle Armstrong, a public artist and visual arts teacher at Cardinal Valley Elementary School.

Artist presentations and question and answer sessions will provide those interested with a better understanding of the opportunities and processes surrounding the commissioning, creation, and installation of public art.

The workshop will be recorded and made available on the Public Art Commission’s website as a resource for those who cannot attend in-person.
