Measles cases approach 200 in Kentucky

Confirmed cases of the measles in Kentucky are nearing 200. That's according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

As of Wednesday, the state dashboard puts the commonwealth's case number at 199 — with 10 known hospitalizations attributed to the highly contagious disease.

So far, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services has tracked 49 cases in October, down from September's 96, with just a few days left in the month.

Recent cases in Christian County have bumped the numbers closer to the 200 mark. 197 of the confirmed measles cases were in patients who either were not vaccinated or have unknown vaccination status.

Last year, Kentucky had just 13 cases total.
