Improvements are coming to Lexington parks. Wednesday saw the unveiling of Woodhill's newest basketball court

Woodhill Park now has a new basketball court and re-paved parking area. But the upgrades are just part of a series of parks improvements on the way.

"Three, two, one..."

City leaders cut the ceremonial ribbon on the new court Wednesday, touting the neighborhood addition as one that sends a signal to Woodhill residents.

"When we improve the neighborhoods where people live, we send a powerful message. You matter, your family matters, and your neighborhood matters," 7th District Councilman Joseph Hale said. "That is why this basketball court matters."

And more parks upgrades are coming: a new playground at Higbee Mill, new trees at Harrods Hill, an 18-hole disc golf course at Coldstream, and a new concessions area at Constitution.

Mayor Linda Gorton said, while the city has used all of its remaining American Rescue Plan funds, money from a new parks tax approved by Lexington voters is beginning to make its way into projects.

"The tax dollars can only be used for capital projects, not maintenance, not operations. So we're starting to see all that come together for some really great improvements, and then projects that we just had in the budget already." she said.

Lexington is home to over 100 city parks. A map is available at lexingtonky.gov.
