Amazon plans to build its first same-day delivery facility in the Lexington area along McGrathiana Parkway.
The 224-thousand-square-foot facility is expected to open in 2027.
Amazon says about 150 full- and part-time employees will work there, using robotics technology to help process customer orders.
And for customers, the biggest change could be speed.
Amazon says some Lexington-area shoppers will be able to get certain items within hours of placing an order, with same-day and expedited delivery options that aren't currently available here.
The company says the facility could eventually help deliver everything from household essentials and groceries to prescription medications.
Amazon already has a large presence across Kentucky, with dozens of facilities, including fulfillment centers, delivery stations and its air hub at Northern Kentucky International Airport.
The company says full-time workers at the new Lexington facility will earn an average of about 23 dollars an hour, along with benefits including health insurance, paid parental leave, retirement benefits and tuition assistance.
Amazon has not yet released additional details about construction or the exact launch date, but the facility is expected to begin operations sometime in 2027.
