The city will provide free LexTran rides to cooling stations for people experiencing homelessness, distribute supplies and keep community centers open into the early evening.
City waste collection will also begin earlier, with residential pickup starting at 4:30 a.m. and commercial pickup at 3:30 a.m. Residents are encouraged to put carts out the night before.
Cooling stations will be available at several locations across Lexington. City officials are urging residents to limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day and to check on vulnerable people and pets.
