Pressure is mounting in light of recent reports of poor conditions and worsening mental health among crew members, part of a deployment that's entering its sixth month. News outlets Stars and Stripes and the Navy Times reported multiple attempts by crew members to jump overboard.
Spectrum News reports McGarvey joined other Democrats in signing a letter seeking more transparency about conditions on the carrier.
The letter says the reports have raised concerns that the administration is "not adapting quickly enough" or "taking appropriate steps" to address the situation.
During a visit to Georgetown Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul was asked if he was aware of any Kentuckians onboard.
"I don't know and I don't have a specific way of assessing. All I've read is the news reports," Paul said. "I am for the peace negotiations and... the sooner the war is over the better."
President Donald Trump has dismissed concerns about the conditions and morale on the Lincoln.
In a statement to CNN, the US Navy said it has not observed an increase in suicidal ideations or attempts aboard the ship, adding it takes "every service member's well-being seriously."
