18-Year-Old Arrested in Deadly Lexington Park Shooting

Jametrius M. Griffin has been charged in connection to the mass shooting in Lexington's Charles Young Park.

Lexington police have arrested an 18-year-old in connection with a shooting at Charles Young Park that left a 16-year-old dead and four others injured.

Police say Jametrius M. Griffin was arrested Sunday in connection with the shooting during the annual East End Day event Saturday evening.

Griffin is charged with murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and tampering with physical evidence. He is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center awaiting arraignment.

The shooting happened shortly before 7 p.m. as the community was gathered at the park for East End Day. Kentucky leaders also reacted to the shooting.

The Fayette County Coroner identified the victim as 16-year-old Di’Zhon Robertson, who died from a gunshot wound at UK Hospital. Police say four other people were injured, including two children, ages 4 and 14. Two adults were also taken to the hospital. All four suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
