The release casts blame on the school board for the district's financial distress, describing the situation as a "runaway circus" and "self-imposed calamity," while pointing to Liggins as a "whistleblower" unearthing "waste, fraud, and abuse."
Board chair Tyler Murphy said the board has received a retirement notice from Dr. Liggins.
"Pursuant to KRS 161.780, the notice will be presented to the Board at our August 17th meeting. We have no additional information at this time. Our focus remains on wrapping up a successful start to the new school year for our students, staff, and families," he said.
The statements comes two months after Liggins was placed on paid leave by the school board, following confusion over a series of emails between the superintendent and school board chair. FCPS regarded the emails as tantamount to a resignation, while Liggins challenged that interpretation, saying instead that he was only seeking conversations about a separation agreement.
