It's billed as one of the largest free cultural events in central Kentucky, and it's marking its 50th anniversary this year. On average, more than 70,000 curious collectors and casual browsers make their way through the fair every year, taking in the fruits of over 200 artists' labor.
Lexington Art League Assistant Director Faville Donohue says, no matter your favorite medium, it's likely to be in the mix.
"Ceramic and metal, there'll be oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolors, drawing, pastels, digital art, lots of sculpture," she told Tom Musgrave on WUKY's Open Studio podcast.
Donohue says while it can be tempting to seek out similar art online, the fair is a chance to meet the artists and hear the stories behind handcrafted pieces.
"You know, they'll look at something and be like, well, I could buy something similar online for $25. And it's like, well, it's not a one-of-a-kind. And this painting took me 30 hours to make," she says.
But for those simply after some sights and sounds, there will also be live entertainment, music, plenty of food, and offerings from local breweries.
The event runs through Saturday and Sunday.
