With regular drivers of Fontaine Road becoming increasingly frustrated with ongoing water line replacement work, Mayor Linda Gorton has called for the water company to hold a public meeting. Wednesday, the mayor's office said KWC has declined to do so, despite delays and complaints about residential damage.
Kentucky Water released a lengthy response, stating the company understands the concerns and insisting the project was always intended to be completed in 2026.
The water company says its requested an expansion of working hours, but has instead been confined to a six-hour daily window, drawing out the project further. The city countered that the request would allow work during peak traffic time for that road.
So far, the government has not authorized the change.
KWC acknowledged the project’s original contractor vacated the project due to internal issues, but added that the company "quickly responded by deploying another qualified contractor to finish the job."
The water company plans to distribute information through doorhangers or sticky notes to people who are directly affected by the project.
