The five students were enrolled to attend the upcoming school year and have not competed in any regular-season athletic events for the school.
The school said its review also found no involvement by the athletic director or coaching staff in the tuition payments, although those employees have since left Lexington Catholic.
After uncovering the issue, Lexington Catholic said it immediately self-reported the violation to the KHSAA and is cooperating with the association's review.
"Lexington Catholic High School takes compliance with KHSAA bylaws seriously and remains committed to upholding the mission, core values, and integrity of our school and the community in which it serves," Superintendent Miranda Chaplin said. "We acted promptly to self-report this matter and will continue to work transparently with KHSAA."
The school said it will also conduct a review of its oversight procedures to help prevent similar issues in the future.
The Diocese's statement also said Lexington Catholic's president is no longer serving in that role.
