Kentucky under flood watch through Saturday

National Weather Service

A Flood Watch remains in effect through late Saturday night for much of central and eastern Kentucky, including Lexington, Louisville, and surrounding communities.

The National Weather Service says repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected through the weekend, with periods of heavy rainfall increasing the risk of flash flooding. Saturated soils from recent rainfall could increase the likelihood of flooding, especially in areas that have received several inches of additional rain.

Forecasters warn that excessive runoff could cause rivers, creeks and streams to overflow their banks, leading to flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
