London, Ky., Mayor Randall Weddle.

London Mayor Randall Weddle is stepping down.

The decision to leave the post followed a court decision that found Weddle — who has a primary residence outside the city — was not eligible to run for reelection. The London city council was also preparing to vote on a resolution requesting Weddle's removal by Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman.

In a lengthy online post, the mayor expressed gratitude for his time in office and thanked his supporters, the community, and employees of the city. He also wrote that "our judicial system has spoken, and while this is not the outcome I had hoped for, I respect the rule of law, the judge, and the decision of the court."

Weddle's tumultuous tenure has been marked by numerous controversies — including ongoing felony campaign finance changes over improper donations to Gov. Andy Beshear's campaign and Kentucky Democrats and a briefly successful effort by the council to oust him. He was reinstated after a court battle in 2025.

Weddle is set to leave office Sunday, July 12.
