In a unanimous vote, board members authorized the firm to conduct the district's annual financial audit for the 2025–26 fiscal year, as required by state law. The agreement also includes a financial restatement of the district's 2024–25 fiscal year records.
The contract sets a maximum cost of $131,750. Any additional services requested outside the agreement's scope will be billed at $225 per hour.
Interim Chief Financial Officer Kyna Koch said the cost is in the budget.
“And it is actually less than we expected given our current situation; we were thrilled with the bid,” Koch said.
Under the agreement, Mauldin & Jenkins is required to complete the audit by Nov. 15, 2026.
The board also approved a new job description for the Director of Finance position. Acting Superintendent Dr. Bill Bradford said the role is designed to consolidate duties currently divided between two associate director positions, streamlining the district's finance operations.
Following the public portion of the meeting, the board entered a closed session for more than an hour to discuss pending investigations involving potential employee discipline. When members returned to open session, they took no action before adjourning.
