The National Weather Service in Louisville warns that strong to severe thunderstorms are forecast across the region today, with the greatest threat expected between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m. EDT.

Forecasters say two rounds of storms are expected, with one developing early in the afternoon and another moving through later in the evening. The area remains under a slight risk for severe weather.

The storms could produce torrential rainfall, damaging wind gusts capable of bringing down trees and power lines, and a low but possible risk of brief tornadoes.

Most areas are expected to receive between one and three inches of rain, but locations along and north of Interstate 64 could see as much as six inches, increasing the threat of significant flash flooding.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts throughout the day and be prepared to seek shelter if severe weather develops. Real-time radar and forecast updates are available through the National Weather Service in Louisville.
