FCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Bill Bradford held his first briefing with the media on Tuesday.

During his first briefing with the media, Fayette County Public Schools Interim Superintendent Dr. Bill Bradford emphasized focusing directly on the students, supporting schools, and maintaining stability during the district's transition.

"We are full speed ahead to planning for the opening of the 2026/2027 school year, of which I would like it to be the best yet," said Bradford. "I've spent considerable time meeting with our interim Chief Financial Officer, Kyna Koch, so that she and I can be aligned with the work that she and her team are doing to provide stability and correction to our current financial situation."

While he declined to address specific personnel issues, Bradford did acknowledge the erosion of trust between school officials and the community.

"What I would ask of the community at large is for a chance. Trust needs to be earned, and I'll do everything I can to earn that trust," Bradford said.

Bradford was appointed by the school board unanimously last week, following their full agreement to place Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins on paid administrative leave.

Liggins is accused of falsifying a legal document to intimidate a FCPS employee who is also a state legislator. There has also been controversy surrounding what was interpreted as a resignation letter from Liggins to the Board. Liggins claims he was requesting a separation package and agreement.
