Fayette County employees were bracing for the news, with district leaders making it clear in recent weeks that cuts would be necessary to right the school system's financial ship after the discovery of long-running financial reporting errors.
This week, 49 hourly and 71 salaried roles were cut — including 17 at the administrative level. The eliminated positions include a variety of support staff, from community engagement liaisons to multilingual family ambassadors.
In a statement, the district said it wants to "underscore that these reductions should not be interpreted as a judgment of people in those roles or the work they're doing."
FCPS also says it's working to help employees with job rights or tenure to find new jobs.
The move comes after work hour reductions were also announced, though none affecting teachers or para-educators.
