As for the first big questions — when and where — CivicLex's Aaron Mudd says the instructions mirror previous primaries.
"Polling places are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time. You can vote at your precinct on Election Day or any of the public library's six locations," he says.
To find your precinct, head to the Kentucky Secretary of State's Voter Information Center online, where you will enter your first and last name and date of birth. You can also enter your address here.
The library voting centers include:
- Beaumont Branch Library
- Central Library
- Eastside Branch Library
- Northside Branch Library
- Tates Creek Library
- Marksbury Family Branch Library
Sample ballots can be found at govote.ky.gov.
Make sure to bring a photo ID, such as a state-issued driver's license or a student ID. A full list of valid IDs can be found at fayettecountyclerk.gov.
As a closed primary, the races will differ on Democratic and Republican ballots. The race for Lexington mayor will appear on all ballots. Council District 5 voters will have a primary as well. Independents can only cast ballots in nonpartisan races.
Registered Republicans will see races for U.S. Senate and the Sixth Congressional District. Democrats will see their candidates for those contests along with several county offices.
