Early voting opens tomorrow: What you need to know about Lexington's 2026 primary election

Registered Lexington voters can cast their ballots at any Lexington Public Library branch on early voting days (May 14-16) and election day (May 19).

Election day is Tuesday, May 19, but you can go to the polls this week to decide the nominees for mayor and one council district seat.

Early voting is open to any registered voter from May 14 to May 16 from 8:30 to 4:30 at any Lexington Public Library branch. Bring a driver's license or any qualifying ID.

Mayoral candidates on the ballot are incumbent Linda Gorton, Raquel E. Carter, Greg O'Neal, C.E. Huffman, Rama Asmani, Skip Horine, and Darnell Tagaloa.

District 5 is the only council district with a primary this year. The candidates are Nicholas Wolter, Stephenie Hoelscher, and Michael McLaughlin.

Kentucky has closed primaries. If you are registered as a Democrat or Republican, you will also be able to vote in your party's primary for US Senator and 6th congressional district representative.

Come election day, polls will be open from 6am to 6pm at your designated precinct or at any of the six Lexington Public Library branches.
