Tired of downtown traffic and parking? New circulator offers an easy way around Lexington hotspots

Josh James/WUKY

A new downtown ride service officially launches this weekend in Lexington.

"Look at these buses. They look great. They're awesome. I didn't realize this until I walked up here, but each scene is a different horse running," Chad Walker with the Warehouse Block says.

The block is one of several areas the new LexRide service will cycle through until October.

It's a pilot program that will allow riders to bypass the hassles of making their way around downtown — with stops throughout the heart of the city including the Distillery District and National Avenue.

"People want easier, safer, and more convenient ways to move around downtown," Councilman James Brown said. "They want to travel without the stress of parking or traffic."

Riders can pay a $1 fare, through cash, LexTran passes, or tap-to-pay options. But for those who want to check out the service in short order, it's free Friday and Saturday.
