Kentucky falls at Texas A&M on Tuesday

Otega Oweh scored 24 points, but Kentucky lost at Texas A&M 96-85 on Tuesday night inside Reed Arena.

Oweh had a season-high nine rebounds and added five assists and three steals.

Mo Dioubate had 19 points in just 22 minutes, while Denzel Aberdeen had nine points and a career-high eight assists.

Kentucky (19-11, 10-7 Southeastern Conference) scored first on two Oweh free throws. After an A&M basket, Oweh broke free for a dunk to give UK a 4-2 lead. The Aggies made two free throws before Collin Chandler made a three to give the Cats a 7-4 advantage. A&M scored again before Oweh hit two free throws, giving UK a 9-6 lead. The Aggies scored the next five to lead by two.

Dioubate scored underneath to tie the game before A&M made one-of-two at the line to lead 12-11. Dioubate scored again to give the lead back to Kentucky and a Jasper Johnson three made it 16-12 Cats. A Brandon Garrison fast-break dunk stretched the lead to six before A&M scored to get within four. Kentucky made eight of its first nine shots from the floor.

Garrison scored consecutive baskets to extend the lead to 22-14 before A&M scored four straight to get within four. Aberdeen then scored consecutive baskets and Andrija Jelavic scored on a dunk to stretch the lead to 28-18. A Malachi Moreno basket closed an 8-0 run that gave UK a 12-point advantage. However, the Aggies scored 13 in a row to take the lead.

Aberdeen scored to give UK a 32-31 lead but A&M went on another 14-0 run to lead 45-32. Moreno made one of two at the line, and the Aggies led 45-33 at the half.

A&M (20-10, 10-7) scored the first two points of the second half before a Jelavic three cut the deficit to 47-36. The Aggies hit back-to-back threes then a free throw to lead by 18, but Dioubate scored consecutive baskets to cut the deficit to 54-40. But Texas A&M went on a 9-1 run to lead by 21.

Later, with the Aggies leading by 20, Oweh scored five straight points to cut the deficit to 64-49, but A&M responded with a 9-3 burst to lead by 21.

Trailing 84-66, Kentucky fought its way back with Dioubate scoring five straight before an A&M bucket gave the Aggies an 86-71 lead. Dioubate made a free throw, and UK got threes from Oweh and Trent Noah to cut the deficit to 86-78. After two Aggies’ free throws, Noah made three free throws to cut the margin to 88-81 with 1:10 remaining. The Cats would get no closer.

Kentucky finishes the regular season on Saturday, hosting Florida at home for Senior Day. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on ESPN.
