Last year, the YMCA of Central Kentucky announced plans to sell the popular downtown location -- first exploring the possibility of remaining open on the site then ultimately choosing to search for an entirely new location.
The plan, at that point, was to shut down the fitness center in March of 2026. But that
timeline has shifted.
With a consultant saying the goal is to make the right long-term decision and not rush the process, the High Street spot is now set to keep its doors open and programs running through the end of 2026.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that YMCA members will, when the time comes, receive a 60-day notice before the facility is shuttered.
