Day after Spring Break a possible make-up day in Fayette County

AP

Fayette County school leaders will be weighing changes to the remainder of the current school year tonight.

During their regular Monday night meeting, the school board will consider amending the official school calendar. Following the prolonged disruption created by the lingering winter weather, board member Amanda Ferguson had briefly entertained the idea that the Monday after Spring Break, April 13, could serve as an ideal make-up day.

At the time, Superintendent Demetrus Liggins had said it was scheduled as a staff day.

"It has been advertised as a non-student day, so what usually happens (is that) people say have vacation plans, etc.," he explained.

But now the board appears ready to weigh that option, in order to avoid tacking more days to the end of the school year.

So far, FCPS has used four NTI, or non-traditional instructional days, and 10 snow days for the entire 2025-26 school year.
