Fayette County Board of Education member Tyler Murphy, representing District 2 Fayette, speaks on behalf of Superintendent Demetrus Liggins’s contract renewal during the Fayette County Public School Board meeting on January 27, 2025, at the Fayette County Public Schools Central office in Lexington, Ky.

The petition, submitted by Republican Representative Matt Lockett, seeks to remove Murphy from the board and bar him from holding any future government positions.

It claims Murphy breached public trust and engaged in 'a variety of inappropriate acts, any of which constitutes a misdemeanor in office under Section 68 of the Kentucky Constitution.’

Lockett represents a portion of Fayette County and is one of several lawmakers who called for the resignations of FCPS Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins and Board Chair Tyler Murphy.
