Lingering ice keeps several Lexington functions on pause

Lexington Police Department

A number of Lexington city operations remain on hold as emergency crews continue their work.

With frigid temperatures keeping much of the city in an icy grip, Lexington city offices not involved in the winter response will stay closed Tuesday.

The city suspended garbage collection Monday and will again on Tuesday. Those decisions are being announced daily.

Meanwhile the Lexington Forum and the city are postponing Mayor Linda Gorton's annual State of the City-County Address. It's now set for Thursday, again depending on weather concerns.

This week's Tuesday Urban County Council meeting will be held via video teleconference. Go to https://www.lexingtonky.gov/departments/lextv to view the meeting via livestream.

Mayor Gorton has said the bitter cold is "slowly recovery from this storm" and is continuing to urge residents to stay off the streets if possible.

It's an instruction many appear to be following. From midnight to 6:30 am Monday, Lexington police responded to only one non-injury collision and 19 motorist/citizen assists.
