Lexington mayor says 'city is ready' for winter storm

LFUCG

Kentucky is in the path of a winter storm expected to hit over the weekend.

Forecasters predict a large winter storm will track across the Commonwealth this Saturday evening through Sunday, impacting travel. Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton is asking everyone to be prepared and stay off the roads once the weather hits.

"This is a huge storm that's moving across almost our whole country and it's a weekend and people need to be smart about this and use commonsense," Gorton said. "If you can just stay inside until we can see what we've gotten in terms of snow, and we're praying we don't get ice, but if we do we'll deal with both. So we're ready."

Since last winter, the city has purchased additional snow equipment and created a partnership with the parks department for additional support clearing roadways.
