Lexington's 'Laptops 4 Learning' bridging digital divide

The program offers digital literacy programs and provides refurbished laptops to students and families in need, with specific programs and computer skills training.

Danielle Sanders, who runs the Black and Williams Neighborhood Center on the city's north side, said "Laptops 4 Learning" will open a new world for people in the community who have shied away from technology.

"Today, thanks to the collaboration and shared commitment of all of these partners, someone will be able to apply for a job, someone will be able to do their homework assignments, someone will be able to keep up with city events, or possibly just go down a rabbit hole on the internet," Sanders said. "We've all been there."

Sanders added that the "Laptops for Learning" program will create an opportunity for all Lexingtonians to access technology.

AT&T donated 120 laptops, and participants go through a three-hour workshop to learn basic computer skills, internet use, navigation, and online safety.
