'Self-defense': Grand Jury declines to indict KSU shooter

Jacob Lee Bard was arrested and charged for fatally shooting a Kentucky State University student and injuring another. Bard admitted to firing the weapon the day of the shooting but said he was defending himself and his family.

Bard's attorney Jonathan Danks said that his client "was completely justified under the law in his use of deadly force."

Bard said he and his wife went to KSU on December 9th after their 18 and 19 year old sons had allegedly been attacked multiple times. They met with KSU police with the intent of moving their sons off campus. According to Danks, individuals who had been involved in previous attacks arrived and began a confrontation with Bard and his sons.

"Despite having two armed Kentucky State University Police Officers present, a group of twenty to thirty individuals gathered in the lobby of the son’s dormitory to violently and viciously attack Jacob Bard’s son and family," a release from Danks law office said. "Many of these individuals were not students of the university and wore ski masks, hoods, and otherwise concealed their faces."

After hear evidence evidence from the Commonwealth’s Attorney, agreed that Bard acted in self-defense and refused to prosecute.

"This concludes the criminal case again Jacob Bard," Danks said.
