Kentucky lawmakers react to Trump address

Associated Press

President Trump made a live address Wednesday night to lay out the first 11 months of his second term in office, calling it a success, beginning with “I inherited a mess, and I'm fixing it."

The President also claimed inflation has stopped. While inflation did drop in November, ending a monthslong acceleration of price increases, data released on Thursday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the 12-month rate of inflation stands at 2.7%

Democratic Governor Andy Beshear called the President’s claims out of touch.

"President Trump gave a speech to the American people, and I was disappointed but not shocked to find he still doesn't get it," Beshear said. "Continuing to call affordability a hoax while American families are struggling is a slap in the face to our people."

On the Republican side, Trump is being praised for his announcement of 'Warrior Dividends.'

"In honor of our nation's founding in 1776, we are sending every soldier $1,776. Think of that. And the checks are already on the way," Trump said.

Kentucky Republican Congressman Andy Barr posted on X, “POTUS does it again! The Warrior Dividend, ON TOP of the raise I voted for, that President Trump will sign soon. Thank you to all our military!”

President Trump said nearly 1.5 million service members should receive payments by Christmas. Money to pay for the Warrior Dividends came earlier this year as part of the president's One Big Beautiful Bill. Trump claimed the money available is due to his imposed tariffs.
