Morgan, who had a double-double with 11 points, tied the school record of Patty Jo Hedges, who had 16 assists against Cincinnati on Jan. 15, 1982.
Kentucky had six players in double figures. Amelia Hassett scored 20 points to lead the Cats, while Clara Strack was her usual dominant self with 18 points, 16 rebounds, four blocks and an assist.
Asia Boone and Jordan Obi each scored 12, while Tonie Morgan had those 11 points.
It was the first time a Kentucky team had six players in double figures since Dec. 18, 2018 against Western Carolina. In that game, Rhyne Howard had 18 points, Tatyana Wyatt had 16, Maci Morris scored 13, Jaida Roper added 12, while Taylor Murray and Amanda Paschal each had 11.
Upstate scored first, but UK got a Strack basket and threes from Jordan Obi and Amelia Hassett to lead 8-2. After two Spartans’ free throws, UK got two free throws from Amelia Hassett, a Strack layup, an Asia Boone three and an Obi layup to extend the lead to 17-4.
After Upstate scored to end the run, UK got another three from Boone to lead 20-6. The Spartans scored again but Kentucky answered with a Kaelyn Carroll three to make it 23-8. The Cats would lead 25-11 after one period of play.
Kentucky scored the first 16 points of the second quarter, on a Hassett layup, an Obi bucket, two Tonie Morgan free throws, a three from Strack, an Obi layup, a Morgan layup and a Boone three to make it 41-11.
The UK defense held Upstate without a basket for almost eight minutes in the quarter and would lead 46-15 at the half. Strack had 11 points and 10 rebounds in the first 20 minutes while Hassett had 10.
Teonni Key made two free throws to start the second half scoring. After a Spartans’ three, UK got a basket from Obi and two more Key free throws to lead 52-18. Threes from Hassett and Key made it 58-18.
After Upstate scored, UK got two layups from Strack and threes from Morgan and Boone to lead 68-20. The Cats would lead 71-22 after three quarters.
The Cats would assemble a 16-0 run to build a 62-point lead, 87-25.
Kentucky returns to action on Saturday, travelling to Huntington, West Virginia, to face Marshall. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on ESPN Plus.
