Buffalo Trace Distillery invites guests to sample a different kind of spirit this Halloween

Frankfort’s Buffalo Trace Distillery is offering self-guided "Night at the Distillery" tours this October, plus a sweepstakes to win a chance to explore the grounds with paranormal investigators.

Frankfort's Buffalo Trace Distillery is holding a giveaway for the chance to explore its reportedly haunted grounds with professional paranormal investigators. Buffalo Trace’s Visitor Experience General Manager Matt Higgins said a winner and one guest will investigate areas of the distillery known for reported supernatural activity.

“For many, many years team members have reported things they couldn’t explain," said Higgins. "Things that were unattributable to anything that was happening in and around them - from an eerie feeling to hearing voices telling them to move a group away from a certain area to even seeing apparitions, especially in the barrel warehouses.”

After the guided investigation, winners will stay overnight at Stony Point - the former home of Albert Blanton, who began working at the distillery at age 16, then went on to become its president in the early 20th century.

"People seem to think there’s more than just the spirits aging in the warehouses around here, Albert Bacon Blanton being one of the more prominent figures that plays into those stories," said Higgins. "He lived his whole life in and around the distillery and passed away in a building that the distillery still utilizes - the building that our guests will get to spend the night in on Halloween."

The sweepstakes entry period ends Wednesday 10/22 at noon.

Buffalo Trace is also offering a new self-guided tour for Halloween. The “Night at the Distillery” walking tour invites guests to traverse the grounds of the country’s oldest continually operating distillery by moonlight. Different stops along the way offer tales of the site’s history, ghost stories, live entertainment, and refreshment, with three cocktail tastings included per ticket.

The tours will take place the evenings of October 23-25 and October 30-November 1. Tickets are required.
