The foundation is poured, and soon hundreds of volunteers will help erect a three-bedroom home for Ronnesia Franklin, her teenage son, and tween daughter.

"I am just so excited to have stability for my family, for my kids, just to show them the way and that it's possible," Franklin said.

Franklin works for the University of Kentucky and is a state-registered nurse's aid. She will donate 250 hours to help Habitat through the Restore and by working to build her own home alongside a team of women. Lexington Habitat for Humanity Women Build is a coalition of women working together to increase access to decent, affordable housing. It’s a movement Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton calls intricate to helping families thrive.

"We continue every day to focus on affordable housing," Gorton said. "Habitat has been our longest partner in this effort."

As for Franklin, she says she’s prayed for this day for a decade and now her dream is coming true.

"It is possible. You just have to apply yourself," Franklin said. "I'm just thankful for this opportunity, and I just can't wait!"
