"This is a special-called meeting of the Fayette County Board of Education to figure out where we can improve," said Board Chair Tyler Murphy.
Murphy added that the goal of an external audit is to ensure transparency and that school leaders are being efficient with taxpayer dollars. It comes after public outcry over a planned tax hike to shore up a $16 million shortfall.
The district is required by law to have a finalized budget submitted to the state for approval by September 30th.
This is the second external audit for FCPS this year.
