FCPS Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins was part of the welcoming committee at Rosa Parks Elementary in Beaumont.
"We're about kids," Liggins said. "At the end of the day and we're going to do every single thing that we can to ensure that every single child gets the absolute best education that they can get."
Superintendent Liggins said they are adjusting to some changes this school year, like a new law that prohibits students from using their cell phones during class.
"Kids aren't excited about it but they understand that it is a distraction to them."
Liggins said students will have easy access to their phones in the case of an emergency, or for class projects that require them. They can also be used during free time like lunch.
New technology is also in place this year that allows parents to track the location of school buses.
Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton joined the Superintendent to welcome kids back and asks everyone to be patient during your morning and afternoon commutes.
"There are a lot more vehicles on the road today than there were yesterday." Gorton said, "Try to plan your time so that you're not in a rush."
Several other districts returned to the classrooms Wednesday including Clark, Franklin, Jessamine, Madison, and Scott Counties.
