The US House Oversight Committee — chaired by Kentucky Republican James Comer — subpoenaed the Justice Department on Tuesday for files in the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking investigation.

According to the Associated Press, Comer's committee is seeking depositions with former President Bill Clinton, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and eight former top law enforcement officials, part of a congressional probe that lawmakers believe may show links to President Donald Trump and former top officials.

Comer is also set to depose Epstein confidant Ghislaine Maxwell, though Maxwell has said she will take the fifth if the deposition were to take place before a decision on her appeal.

Comer was asked about the timeline at last weekend's Fancy Farm event.

"The problem right now is, she's got her appeal before the Supreme Court. Hopefully, the Supreme Court will rule, and we'll be able to roll in there very soon," he told media outlets.

The committee's actions showed how even with lawmakers away from Washington on a month long break, interest in the Epstein files is still running high.

Comer noted in letters to Attorney General Pam Bondi that the Epstein and Maxwell cases "have received immense public interest and scrutiny."
