In a release, FCPS says it requires about .18 acres of land near the new academy set for construction on Versailles Road.
While the district acknowledges eminent domain is the last resort, it says it has engaged in good faith negotiations with those affected and will continue to work within all legal requirements to ensure "fair treatment."
According to FCPS, the deal would not involve any homes, though it would require portions of back yards. The district says the public acquisition of private property is "sometimes necessary to meet the long-term needs for our students and community."
If the process is completed as expected, the 900-student academy could open by June 2026.
