The Good Samaritans who sprang into action the day a Kentucky State Trooper was shot at Lexington’s Bluegrass Airport two weeks ago have received the state’s highest honor.

Jimmy Alexander, Jessica Alexander, Taylor Hall, and Adam Arnold were getting ready to park and board a plane from Lexington to Florida on Sunday morning, July 13th. They heard a commotion and saw a man running frantically to his car. Jimmy Alexander said he pulled up to see if he needed help.

“And that's when my wife noticed the state policeman lying over in the field about 50 to 75 feet off. It was down in an embankment, kind of,” Alexander said. “And, she's like, oh my god, babe. I think he's been shot. And she jumps out of the car. I hadn't even gotten it in park, I don't think. And she just takes off being a nurse, you know, like, took control of the situation.”

Jessica Alexander is a registered nurse. So is her daughter, Taylor Hall, who graduated from nursing school just last month.

“It was just insane to me, honestly. I mean, where we work at Rockcastle Regional, we don't see things like that on a daily basis at all. I mean, we see tragic things happen, but not anything like that at all,” said Hall. “So the fact that we did and we knew how to help and could help was an amazing thing.”

The group’s quick action at the scene is being credited with saving the life of Kentucky State Trooper Jude Remilien, a 3-year veteran assigned to Post 12 in Frankfort, and they were recognized by Governor Andy Beshear.

“Y'all saved a life. You jumped into action without a second thought, and you showed the world the best of Kentucky. That's why today, I'm not only naming each of you this week's Team Kentucky all-stars, but I'm also presenting you with the highest honor that I can as Governor.”

The title of Kentucky Colonel is awarded by the Governor to individuals recognized for their noteworthy accomplishments, contributions to their community, state, or nation, and outstanding service.
