Heatwave hits Kentucky; emergency plan in place in Lexington

National Weather Service

With heat indices predicted to reach temperatures in the triple digits, Lexington's emergency management has activated Phase One of its heat plan.

Partners of the Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention will serve as cooling stations. Lextran will offer free rides to Homeless community members to access cooling stations, and outreach teams will distribute supplies.

Officials remind you to stay hydrated, wear loose fitted clothing, stay inside between 10 and 4 if you can. If you must be outside, apply sunscreen every two hours and take breaks in the shade to protect yourself from the sun.

The heat plan will be in effect through Sunday, July 27th.
