"You Belong Here" uses Michel and Kentucky cuisine as lenses through which to examine the Commonwealth and its culture. Discussing the series, Michael and Zahn said they wanted to capture a wide angle view covering different parts of the state at different seasons.
"So we picked up a camera and we started following Ouita over a year ago, and it was amazing. And we met so many great people. We went to farms and cities and small towns and hollers," Zahn said in a press conference Monday, addressing Michel. "And your story flourished. But we realized it's our story. It's Kentucky."
"You Belong Here" was presented at a panel as an official selection at Tribeca x in New York. It was also chosen on a panel at the ATX Television Festival in Austin.
Michel called the series a "love song to Kentucky."
"One of the things too that we in Kentucky don't always think about ourselves is how special we really are and how special the people in Kentucky are, and that you can be your authentic self," she said.
