The first phase of Lexington's heat response is in effect through Friday evening, when highs are expected to begin dropping just below 90. Until then, heat indices could continue topping 100 over the next few days.
In response, the Lexington Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention is operating cooling stations with Lextran providing free rides to the facilities for individuals experiencing homelessness.
Outreach teams are also distributing supplies.
