"Scammers are sending fraudulent texts all over the country, I'm getting them, which look like they come from the Department for Motor Vehicles or DMVs, but they are scams. Recent scam texts have warned folks about unpaid traffic tickets or violations and threatened to suspend driving privileges or actions if they don't pay,” Beshear said. “Do not click on any of these texts. Don't click on any of the links. Even if you see KY or gov in the links, they are fraudulent.”
Beshear stated that the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet does not collect traffic ticket fees or notify customers of outstanding violations.
Other red flags are misspellings in text messages or references to DMV or DOT, which are not the official names used in Kentucky.
Beshear said his administration is taking steps to have fraudulent websites taken down.
