The list of proposed fine increases is lengthy, but as CivicLex's Adrian Bryant explains, they're not the most common.
"Instances such as parking without paying or staying past a time limit. Those types of fines which are what most people encounter, are not changing at all," he says. "The fines that LexPark sought council approval for — and are going to get council approval for — are things like parking in a crosswalk, parking in a fire lane, parking on a sidewalk. These things that they call safety violations that are generally parking in places that you are not supposed to be parking in."
The full list can be found at CivicLex.org.
It's the first time the more safety oriented fines have gone up in nearly a decade.
The final vote is on May 8, but the fines wouldn't go into effect until September.
