Governor Andy Beshear announced Wednesday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied individual assistance for six counties and public assistance for two counties.

A press release from Governor Beshear's office states that flooding in Butler, Franklin, Knox, Laurel, Lawrence, and Whitley counties did not qualify for the Individual Assistance program. FEMA stated those counties were ineligible because damage "is not of the severity and magnitude to warrant their designation."

FEMA also found that the impact to infrastructure in Simpson and Woodford counties did not warrant a designation under the Public Assistance program.

In the release, Besehar said he plans to appeal the decisions.

Regarding deadly flooding across the state in April, the Governor requested a Major Disaster Declaration from President Donald Trump on April 11. The state is still waiting to hear if that request has been approved.

In it, the Governor asked for Individual Assistance for 13 counties and Public Assistance and Direct Federal Assistance for 33 counties.
