Project Ricochet's president Dr. Abeni El Amin says the Black Family Conference is the nonprofit's signature event.
"We want this conference to be a catalyst for long term impact. Whether you're a parent navigating school systems, a student finding your voice, or a professional seeking to serve your community better, this is a space for you," El-Amin told WUKY.
The goal of the conference is to create a space for black families and allies to build community, attend sessions and workshops on issues like health disparities, mental health, and financial literacy, and discussing solutions to those issues. Project Ricochet is collaborating with The UK College Of Education and its UK Prevent Alliance along with a number of partners and sponsors offering resources and sessions to the conference.
Some of the sessions include a workshop for new and starting farmers, a panel with the Lexington Fayette County Health Department to talk about the community health improvement plan, and a faith based session. This conference is more than just information. It's a healing, empowering, and mobilizing experience. Registration for the conference is still open. The event is free, and more registration information is at projectricochet.org.
The Black Family Conference will be on March 29 at 10AM in the UK Gatton Student Center.
