In his 30 plus year career Andrea Bocelli has achieved almost legendary status. The acclaimed tenor has performed at Olympic ceremonies, the coronation of King Charles III and the funeral of Pavarotti. His music spans classical, opera and pop genres and you’ll be able to catch him live this December 6th at Rupp Arena.
Bocelli played in Louisville two years ago but it’s been a bucket list item for everyone involved to bring him to Lexington for far longer than that, and now seems propitious timing that he will be here as part of the city’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
The Lexington Cancer Foundation is the local sponsor. Chairwoman Brenda Rice is excited about the awareness this will bring to the new Markey Cancer and Ambulatory Building.
"That will bring a new era of advanced cancer research, treatment, and services to all Kentuckians," said Rice.
Director of the Markey Cancer Center Dr Mark Evers talked about the connection between art and medicine and the power of music to heal.
"Music especially has the power to comfort, to inspire, and transform the patient's experience. So this is why today's announcement feels so meaningful, to us. Andrei Bocelli's voice has touched millions around the world, and we are thrilled to welcome him to Lexington as part of this landmark anniversary," Evers told reporters.
The Lexington show will be one of a 13 city tour by Andrea Bocelli, and he will be accompanied at Rupp by the Lexington Philharmonic. Tickets will go on sale at 10am Monday April 7t
