UK Athletics

The Kentucky Men's Basketball Team has earned a three seed in the Midwest Region in the NCAA Tournament in Coach Mark Pope’s first season in Lexington. Their path will start in Milwaukee, taking on the No. 14 seed Troy in the opening round on Friday.

The Wildcats own a 22 & 11 mark on the year and are coming off a 29 point loss to Alabama in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals.

Troy is 23-10 and won the Sun Belt Tournament by defeating Arkansas State in the final.

If the Cats win, they’ll face the winner of No. 6 Illinois and either Texas or Xavier. To get to the Elite Eight, Kentucky may face a familiar foe for a third time, the Tennessee Volunteers.

Houston is the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region, followed by Tennessee earning the No. 2 seed and Purdue earning the No. 4 seed. Other notable names in the Midwest Region include Gonzaga (No. 8 seed), Georgia (No. 9 seed), and Clemson (No. 5 seed).
