Death toll from recent Kentucky storms rises to 21

Governor Andy Beshear announced the additional losses in a post on social media over the weekend. He also asked for those who are able to give to the Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund

As of Sunday night, the Governor reported

  • 660 power outages
  • 108 state road closures
  • 301 sheltering in parks or hotels
  • 274 sheltering in schools or churches
  • 100 written declarations from local counties and cities
  • 21 weather-related deaths

Beshear was in Washington D.C. on Friday for the annual Governor's Conference and said he planned to appeal the state's case for the need for individual federal assistance.

Storm victims could receive $700 for immediate needs and up to $44,000 to cover damage and repairs if approved.

President Donald Trump did approve an emergency declaration within hours of the Governor's request on February 15th.
