Monday night's school board meeting saw a flood of support for Liggins with an enthusiastic crowd showing up to back the top local school official amid a petition calling for his ouster.
While the majority of speakers praised Liggins' work, citing academic improvements and narrowed achievement gaps, several critics took issue with what they described as a lack of transparency and responsiveness to parents.
"Please don't stonewall us out," one speaker said. "I understand the achievements that have occurred today, but I also understand that when several of us do have questions, please acknowledge that we exist."
Liggins told WUKY Tuesday that his door is open.
"(I'm) always open to feedback. I'm always open to meeting with people outside of a meeting and outside of petitions as well. So that's always, I think, the best route to resolve any issues. But I listen to my critics as well as those who praise me, to just make sure we're doing what's best for kids," he said.
Liggins' contract was renewed on a 3-2 vote, keeping him in the top spot through June 2029.
