Devine Carama, Director of One Lexington called leaders of the FRYSC program "the heartbeat of our schools."
“When it comes to non-instructional needs, they're on the front lines. And so, to be able to leverage some of this funding that we got to support our FRYSC, who are helping our most vulnerable young people in situations that you couldn't even imagine is a true blessing,” Carama said. “So, when we think about in situations that you couldn't even imagine is a true blessing.”
Nine schools are receiving a $2,000 grant each and eight will be given $1,000 each for a total gift of $26,000.
The money will be used to fund events, services, and programs that focus on intervention as well as prevention of youth gun violence.
Carama said One Lexington chose the schools in areas most impacted by gun violence based on 2024 Lexington Police Crime data.
The nine schools receiving $2,000 grants are:
· Crawford Middle School
· Lexington Traditional Magnet School
· Winburn Middle School
· Frederick Douglass High School
· Henry Clay High School
· Paul Laurence Dunbar High School
· Tates Creek High School
· The Learning Center
· Success Academy
These additional eight elementary schools will receive $1,000 each:
· Booker T. Washington Elementary School
· Cardinal Valley Elementary School
· Deep Springs Elementary
· Harrison Elementary School
· Mary Todd Elementary School
· Northern Elementary School
· Rosa Parks Elementary School
· William Wells Brown Elementary School
